Battlefields Council Elections

this page last updated: April 29-2008

Battlefields Council has appointed Bob Miller and Dave Wiebe as Council Election Co-Chiars.  The information on this website has been added as per thier request.

It is very important that there is "equal opportunity for Groups to pariticipate in the election of Council Voting Members".  It is critical at this stage of the election process that we adhere to the timeline in order to have a fair election.

For access to the Battlefields Council Election Page use this link http://scouting.niagara .com/battlefields/.  Battlefield Council will conduct the first annual election of Voting Members to the Scouts Canada National Annual General meeting in the 3 month period of April to June 2008.

Updates

Who will represent Battlefields Council at the 2008 Scouts Canada National Annual General Meeting?

March 26, 2008

Until now the three Voting Members representing our Council at the National AGM have been selected by the Council Management Committee.  On April 24, 2007 the Board of Governors of Scouts Canada approved Policy 1014.  This sets out the process that Councils across the country must follow to conduct the election of their three Voting Members.

Battlefields Council will conduct the first annual election, for the 2008 Voting Members, in the three month period April to June 2008.  We need this time period to obtain nominations for candidates; for Groups to select Council Voting Reps to represent them in the voting process; and for the one month posting period required by the policy.

We expect to complete the whole election process via the internet and will post details on the Battlefields Council website by April 1, 2008.

It is important that all Areas and Groups participate in this process as these votes provide us the most effective way of expressing our agreement or non-agreement with how the National organization operates.

You can view Policy 1014 at http://sunshine.scouts.ca/bpp/firstpage.htm - Section 1000 - and we ask all Area and Group Committees to read, discuss and participate in this process when the election process is posted.
